How to Upgrade the Toshiba Laptop CPU
Laptop processors are among the most commonly upgraded hardware devices. This is because your processor has the greatest effect on a computer’s performance. The processor allows your Toshiba laptop’s software to operate. The speed of your processor determines how fast your software performs essential functions. In fact, each program has specific hardware requirements. If your Toshiba’s processor does not meet your software’s minimum hardware requirements, the software will run slowly, or not at all. To replace your Toshiba’s processor you’ll have to completely dismantle the laptop.
1.Shut down your laptop using the operating system. Disconnect the power cable and all external data and/or networking devices from the laptop. Close the LCD panel and place the laptop face down with the front edge facing toward you.
2.Remove the battery pack from its compartment along the top edge of the laptop’s bottom. Remove the Phillips-head screws securing the hard drive compartment cover to the lower left corner of the laptop. Remove the cover from the computer. 3.Remove the large hardware compartment cover and its retaining Phillips-head screws from the center of the laptop. This compartment contains the RAM, wireless and modem modules. Spread the retaining clips on either side of the RAM module to release it from its memory slot. Tilt the module upward and then pull it out of the memory slot. Repeat this for all RAM modules on the laptop.
4.Use a pair of tweezers to disconnect the two antenna cables from the wireless module. Spread its retaining clips, tilt the module upward and then remove it from the wireless module compartment. Remove the two Phillips-head screws from the modem module. Lift it out of its compartment slightly and then disconnect the modem’s cable from the motherboard. Remove the modem from the laptop. Store the modem, wireless and RAM modules in a static-free plastic bag to prevent electrical damage.
5.Remove the single Phillips-head screw securing the CD/DVD drive to the upper left corner of the laptop. Use a flat-head screwdriver to disengage the retaining metal latch on the back of the drive.HP DV9000 battery Pull the CD/DVD drive out of its compartment and set it aside. Remove all remaining screws from the laptop’s bottom casing. Then remove any screws from the laptop’s back casing where all the data, networking and AC power ports are located.
6.Place the laptop face up and open the LCD panel as far as possible. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the keyboard bezel from the laptop. The keyboard bezel is the plastic piece situated above the keyboard that spans the width of the keyboard. Remove the Phillips-head screws securing the keyboard in place. Place the keyboard face down on the laptop’s surface. Disconnect the keyboard’s ribbon cable from the motherboard and then remove the keyboard from the laptop.

8.Remove all Phillips-head screws securing the laptop’s upper casing in place. Disconnect all cables connected to the motherboard from the upper casing assembly. Insert a thin guitar pick into the gap along the outside edge of the laptop. Begin to pry the upper casing from the laptop’s base. Work your way around the entire laptop until the upper casing is completely separated. Remove the upper casing from the laptop.
9.Remove the Phillips-head screws securing the cooling fan assembly to the upper left corner of the motherboard. Disconnect the fan’s cable from the motherboard and then remove the fan assembly from the laptop. Disconnect all remaining cables and devices from the motherboard. Remove the Phillips-head screws securing the motherboard to the laptop’s base. 10.Locate the CPU chip on the bottom of the motherboard. Turn its locking screw counterclockwise one-half turn to disconnect the CPU from its socket. Lift the CPU out of the motherboard and set it aside.
11.Insert the new processor chip and repeat the previous steps in reverse order.
How to Troubleshoot Laptop Charger Cords
A laptop charger cord, also known as an AC power adapter, is responsible for providing power to the laptop when it is connected to an electrical outlet and charging the battery. 1.Shut down the laptop. Remove any adapters or power cords.
